My Review

“Mufasa: The Lion King” is the story of Mufasa, the father of Simba and King of the Pride of Lions. This computer-animated photo-realistic film is both the prequel and the sequel to “The Lion King” (2019), which is itself a remake of the 1994 animated movie of the same name. Director Barry Jenkins (“If Beale Street Could Talk” 2018) and screenwriter Jeff Nathanson put together an excellent film with outstanding production values and state-of-the-art photo-realistic animation. The musical score was composed by Dave Metzger, and the songs were penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The voice cast includes Aaron Pierre as Mufasa, Donald Glover as Simba, Seth Rogan, Thandiwe Newton, Mads Mikkelsen, Beyonce Knowles, Keith David, Tiffany Boone, Billy Eichner, Lennie James, and Blue Ivy Carter (daughter of Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles) as Kiara. This is Carter’s motion picture debut. The watchable “Mufasa: The Lion King” was popular at the box office for Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, and The Walt Disney Company. It was the sixth highest grossing movie of 2024. “Mufasa: The Lion King” was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.
