“F1” is a sports drama film about a race car driver who returns to Formula 1 racing after a thirty year absence to help out his former teammate’s underdog team. Director Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick” 2022) and screenwriter Ehren Kruger put together a top-rate film with outstanding production values, excellent writing, and uncommonly good performances. The film has a good balance between racing scenes and personal drama and even above-average character development for a sports picture. Kosinski and Kruger were partners in writing and conceiving the story.
Brad Pitt heads the cast as race car driver Sonny Hayes, one of the best performances of his career. Co-stars include Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Javier Bardem, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, Will Merrick, Joseph Balderrama, Liz Kingsman, Shea Whigham, and Kyle Rankin. The watchable “F1” has done very well at the box office, the first hit for Apple Studios in theatrical release. It is the ninth highest grossing film of 2025, so far, for producers Jerry Bruckheimer, Joseph Kosinski, and Brad Pitt, Apple Studios, Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Plan B Entertainment, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Apple Original Films.
