“Mile 22” is a spy action thriller picture about a special CIA task force assigned to escort a high priority agent 22 miles to a safe house while being pursued, apparently, in Indonesia. We say “apparently” because the plot and storyline are so muddled that viewers have a difficult time discerning what is going on.
Credit goes to a very poorly written screenplay by Lea Carpenter, normally a novelist, not a screenwriter. Now on to Peter Berg, the unorganized and talentless director who has given the public garbage movies like “Battleship” (2012) and “Deepwater Horizon” (2016).
The stars seem to muddle through as best they can: Mark Walhberg, Lauren Cohan, John Malkovich, Ronda Rousey, Carlo Alban, Terry Kinney, Poorna Jagannathan, and Iko Uwais, the Indonesian actor and martial arts guy who made a positive impression in this otherwise dismal project. “Mile 22” is an independent film that flopped big time at the box office in 2018.
