“Under the Silver Lake” is a promising attempt by director-screenwriter David Robert Mitchell (“It Follows” 2014) to make a modern-day noir film. The result is a long, drawn out, and confusing movie with a muddled plot and boring storyline that lasts 139 interminable minutes.
The story follows a 33-year-old man in Los Angeles who embarks on a journey to find out what happened to his neighbor, a young woman who suddenly vanishes. Despite the sluggish storyline, the two principal actors deliver fantastic performances: Andrew Garfield (“Spider-Man” of 2012 and 2014) and Riley Keough (granddaughter of Elvis & Priscilla Presley and daughter of Lisa Marie Presley), as Sam and Sarah, respectively.
Other actors in this independent picture includes Topher Grace, Jimmi Simpson, and Grace Van Patten, daughter of Timothy Van Patten and neice of Dick Van Patten.
