Four Oscar winners star in the delightful comedy-drama film “The Old Man and the Gun.” Robert Redford plays a senior citizen bank robber who charms his victims, Casey Affleck portrays the police detective hot on his trail, Keith Carradine is the police captain, and Sissy Spacek is Redford’s love interest.
Director-screenwriter David Lowery (“Pete’s Dragon” 2016) based this movie on the true life story of career criminal Forrest Tucker (1920-2004), as chronicled in David Grann’s 2003 article in the New Yorker magazine. Lowery paced this picture perfectly, allowing for some fantastic character develpment.
Other actors include Danny Glover, Tika Sumpter, Tom Waits, Elisabet Moss, and Isiah Whitlock. Robert Redford also served as one of the producers on “The Old Man and the Gun” from Fox Searchlight Pictures. It was one of his last film appearances, as he announced his retirement from acting after the completion of this project.
