My Review

Banker Roger Hobbs is looking forward to a beach vacation alone with his wife, but she has invited all of their family members to join them in “Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation.” Director Henry Koster (“Flower Drum Song” 1961) and screenwriter Nunnally Johnson put together a humorous family comedy that moves smoothly and enjoyably for the entire 116 minute running time. Henry Mancini was in charge of the film’s musical score.

The cast is headed by James Stewart and Maureen O’Hara, two old pros in the motion picture comedy department. They have great on-screen chemistry. Co-stars include Fabian, John Saxon, John McGiver, Marie Wilson, Natalie Trundy, Reginald Gardner, Lauri Peters, Lili Gentle, Michael Burns, and Peter Oliphant. The watchable “Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation” was popular at the box office for producer Jerry Wald and 20th Century Fox.
