Terrible sequels are nothing new in the Hollywood motion picture industry, but to say that part two of 2007’s “300” reaches new levels of depravity is a big understatement. “300: Rise of an Empire” is quite simply a stylish bloodbath and monument to gore and violence.
Director Noam Murro (“Smart People” 2008) and screenwriters Zach Snyder (one of the producers) and Kurt Johnstad should be ashamed of themselves for dumping this garbage on the movie-going public. The cast includes Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, Rodrigo Santoro, Jack O’Connell, Callan Mulvey, David Wenham, and (in flashbacks) Gerard Butler and Michael Fassbender.
“300: Rise of an Empire” barely made a profit against the production budget and advertising expenses for Warner Bros. Pictures.
