My Review

An action packed movie thriller chronicling the events leading up to the attack on the American embassy in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012, is out in theaters called “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.” Producer-director Michael Bay (“Transformers” movies of 2009, 2011, 2014) seemed to take a “just the facts” approach in creating the film, which was politically controversial in the 2016 presidential election as it took place under the watch of President Barak Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Left leaning critics have taken issue with some of the historical facts depicted.

Screenwriter Chuck Hogan based his work on the 2014 book by Mitchell Zuckoff. The film was well paced with realistic battle scenes; the 144 minute running time moved quickly. The ensemble cast delivered in the performing department: James Badge Dale, John Krasinski, Max Martini, Dominic Fumusa, Pablo Schreiber, David Denman, Matt Letscher, Toby Stephens, Alexia Barlier, Freddie Stroma, David Costable, and Andrei Claude.

“13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” from Bay Films and Paramount Pictures was only moderately successful in theatrical release.
