My Review

“12 Angry Men” is the story of a jury deciding the fate of a young man accused of stabbing his father. At the beginning of deliberations, eleven vote guilty and one feels the defendant is innocent. As the discussions proceed, some jurors change their minds thanks to the one lone juror. William Friedkin (“To Live and Die in L. A.” 1985) tightly directed this drama, with the teleplay largely adapted by Reginald Rose from his own original 1954 teleplay of the same name and from the 1957 film of the same name starring Henry Fonda.

The cast of this made-for-television movie includes Jack Lemmon (as the lone protesting juror, which was portrayed by Fonda in 1957), George C. Scott, Ossie Davis, Tony Danza, Hume Cronin, James Gandolfini, Edward James Olmos, William Petersen, Courtney B. Vance, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Dorian Harewood, and Mykelti Williamson.

Other cast includes Mary McDonnell as Judge Cynthia Nance, Tyrees Allen as the guard, and Douglas Spain as the defendant. “12 Angry Men” was released on the Showtime cable network on August 17, 1997, a production of MGM Television and Showtime Networks. It won two Primetime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Supporting Actor (George C. Scott) and Best Sound Mixing.
